KidsPlay is at the moment a draft for a whole new KDE program oriented towards young children. Here are all the ideas Danny has for such a program:

  • use Get Hot New Stuff to download new images, activities, etc
  • have individual child stats, and also whole class statistics (kchart?)
  • have "admin" password for important editing/configuration tasks
  • auto logout of users, configurable in settings
  • first time wizard (run mode "single user, many users, class mode", set admin password, add users, ask to download new data, etc)
  • allow locking of certain tasks, difficulty levels
  • use "locale" settings for certain activities, eg. money exercises - if in EU, use Euro's, US = Dollars
  • load quiz, flashkard, etc. formats into kidsplay (with native-looking display of such formats)
  • if KParts can be used in a "non-ugly" way, perhaps use KParts of other apps (kgeography, etc)?
